Vietnam, US cooperate in disease prevention and health care

(VOVworld) – Acting Deputy Secretary of the US Department of Health and Human Services, Mary Wakefield, visited Ha Vi poultry wholesale market in Thuong Tin district, Hanoi, on Friday. This is the biggest poultry wholesale market in northern Vietnam covering an area of 1.7 ha.

About 40 to 60 tons of poultry, equivalent to 20,000 to 3,000 units, are traded every day. Her tour is part of a Vietnam-US cooperative program on disease prevention and health care. Ms. Wakefield said disease management measures play an important part in protecting the health of Vietnamese people.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention supports preventive measures at Ha Vi market to prevent diseases, particularly avian flu.
