Vietnam willing to join world community to contribute to conflict resolution in Ukraine

(VOVWORLD) -Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son on Tuesday affirmed Vietnam's consistent stance that international disputes and disagreements should be resolved by peaceful means, in compliance with basic principles of the UN Charter and international law, especially the principle of respect for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.

In a phone conversation, Mr. Son discussed with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov the conflict situation in Ukraine.

He called on the parties to exercise restraint, reduce tensions and continue to make efforts to dialogue for a long-term solution on the basis of conformity with international law and taking into account the legitimate interests of the parties. Vietnam is willing to join the international community to contribute to this process, minister Son said.

He asked the Russian side continue to organize humanitarian corridors and take measures to ensure the safety of civilians, including Vietnamese in Ukraine, to be evacuated from combat zones.

Minister Lavrov highly appreciated Vietnam's role and contribution to peace, stability and development cooperation, saying he will try his best to support the safe evacuation of Vietnamese citizens from the combat zones.
