Vietnamese scientist wins prestigious Tohoku International Award

(VOVWORLD) - Professor Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet, President of Thuyloi University in Vietnam, won the prestigious Outstanding International Contribution Award at the Tohoku International Awards Ceremony in Japan on Friday.

Viet is an alumnus of the Graduate School of Engineering and founded the Tohoku University Alumni Association of Vietnam (TUAAV) in 2019. He has facilitated the enrolment of numerous Vietnamese researchers and students at Tohoku University and actively mentors the next generation through joint supervision and doctoral programs.

Tohoku University is one of Japan’s and the world’s leading institutions for education and scientific research, with a proud history of more than 100 years. Established in 2022, the Tohoku University International Awards highlight the achievements of alumni and individuals with outstanding contributions to global education and scientific research cooperation. The award also recognizes initiatives that create positive and lasting impacts around the world.

In June 2022, Professor Dr. Viet was honored with the International Collaboration Award in civil engineering by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE).
