Vietnam’s President to chair open discussion of UN Security Council

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, as Chair of the United Nations Security Council in April 2021, will preside over a high-level open debate on how to increase cooperation between the UN and regional and sub-regional organizations to boost dialogue, trust-building, and prevent conflicts.

The UNSC’s meeting will be held next Monday, April 19, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.

The April 19 meeting is one of Vietnam’s four initiatives as Chair of the UN Security Council for April, said Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, head of the Vietnamese delegation to the UN on April 1. The other three initiatives include an open debate on dealing with bombs and mines held April 8, an open debate on April 28 on protecting civilians and another open debate on April 14 on preventing sexual violence in conflict areas, he said.
