Vietnam’s top leader says it’s time to lead the world into a new era of progress

(VOVWORLD) - As science and technology rapidly advance, sustainable development and human well-being should remain the top priorities in all global efforts, Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President To Lam told the UN Summit of the Future in New York on Sunday.

Mr. Lam said human intelligence has transformed the world, improving life in many ways but humans have also caused problems like climate change, epidemics, resource depletion, and weapons of mass destruction, and "the choices we make now will shape our future.”

The top leader said science and technology should encourage cooperation, not be used against nations or oppose the goals of peace, development, fairness, and justice. He urged more investment in medical research, education, digital transformation, and green technology, while reducing investment in weapons of mass destruction.

Mr. Lam emphasized the importance of strengthening unity, cooperation, and mutual respect, called on countries to follow international law and the UN Charter and resolve disputes peacefully, and urged major powers to act responsibly and share their scientific and technological progress.

"We have a historic chance to lead the world into a better era of progress, fairness, improved well-being, freedom, and happiness for all. This can happen if we unite, work together, and cooperate effectively," Lam said.

Party leader and State President Lam said Vietnam supports the documents adopted at the Summit –the Pact for the Future, the Global Digital Compact, and the Declaration on Future Generations – and hopes they will be implemented effectively.
