WHO chief expresses optimism in defeating COVID-19
(VOVWORLD) - Although COVID-19 is on track to hit 20 million cases and 750,000 deaths in more than 210 countries and territories this week, the head of the World Health Organization on Monday pointed to “green shoots of hope” and urged governments and citizens worldwide to keep working to halt the pandemic.
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said this is a difficult moment for the world but it’s never too late to turn things around. There is a "vast global gap", he said, between funds needed to fight the pandemic and funds committed.
The next three months present a crucial window of opportunity to scale-up the ACT Accelerator’s global impact," ‘Ghebreyesus told a briefing in Geneva, referring to the "Access to COVID-19 Tools" initiative. He stressed the need to scale up funding for the ACT Accelerator and prioritize the use of new tools.
