(VOVWORLD) -  Heads of state and governments around the globe delivered speeches and sent messages to mark the arrival of 2020, wishing for a good year ahead.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson vowed to "get Brexit done before the end of this month."

Italian President Sergio Mattarella said Italy is going through hardships but will create favorable conditions to fully exploit its resources.

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said Singapore benefits from globalization and should continue to open its door and connect more to the world.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he hopes the Indian people will continue efforts to change the country for better in 2020.

Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said the government will make 2020 a prosperous year. He said a strong and sustainable economy is Sri Lanka’s top priority.

Fiji Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama stressed the importance of coping with climate change. He said the international community must reduce greenhouse gas emissions, otherwise, Fiji will suffer worse storms in the years to come.
