Binh Duong tightens links between agricultural production and distribution

(VOVWORLD) - Linking production and distribution of agricultural products boosts agricultural development and benefits each component of the value chain, especially the farmers. This is the policy that the southern province of Binh Duong has been pursuing over the years.

80% of Binh Duong’s nearly 2,700 km2 is farm land. Agriculture has thrived here thanks to a tropical climate and abundant water.

Most of Binh Duong’s farm produce is grown in line with Vietnamese Good Agricultural Practices (VietGAP), GlobalGAP, and organic agriculture standards.

Nguyen Thanh Kien, Director of the Thanh Kien Agriculture Cooperative in Binh Duong, said that local farmers and distributors have worked to link production and distribution in order to export more agricultural products.

“Farm households, farmers, and farms increase benefits by working together. That stabilizes their production and prices. Ministries, departments, and agencies support farmers and farm cooperatives with training courses, professional seminars, and product zones organized for export purposes,” said Kien.

According to Dang Nhu Tam, Deputy Director of the provincial Rural Development Department, to stabilize production and increase the price of local agricultural products, Binh Duong has increased trade promotion, organized activities to connect supply and demand, and persuaded farmers and businesses to participate in nationwide link-up programs.

“Over the years, Binh Duong’s agriculture sector has made remarkable progress in improving product values. Last December, the provincial People's Council adopted a resolution supporting farm cooperatives, value chains, and policies aimed at improving product quality, restructuring the industry, and building new-style rural areas in Binh Duong,” he said.

Tam said even more trade promotion and connection activities have been planned to get businesses, cooperatives, and farmers to participate in programs that create stable production. She said the range of products getting linked is expanding.

“Those products include industrial crops, rubber trees, fruit trees, vegetables, ornamental trees, and medicinal herbal trees, breeding cattle and poultry, agricultural processing, and agriculture geared to eco-tourism,” said Tam.

Binh Duong has been building hi-tech agricultural zones, hi-tech agricultural businesses, and urban ecological and organic agricultural areas, achieving breakthroughs in raising crops and livestock to national and international standards.

Under Binh Duong’s agricultural development plan, 30% of farm land and 30% of its breeding farms will be using high tech by 2025.

The provincial People's Committee will focus on establishing joint venture cooperative models, developing an agriculture based on quality and efficiency, environmental friendliness, production-distribution-consumption links, and concentrated crop and livestock production areas.

Safe agricultural production, agricultural branding, and sustainable production-distribution-consumption links will be the key to developing Binh Duong's agricultural sector during the integration process.
