(VOVworld)- The National Organizing Committee of the celebration of 60th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory organized a general rehearsal for the celebration on Monday. Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, the Chief Organizer attended the event. Activities in the rehearsal included an incense burning ceremony at the A1 Martyrs cemetery, a grand meeting ceremony, a parade to celebrate the victory in the provincial stadium and an art performance.

On the same day, the Vietnam Social Sciences Academy held an international workshop on the significance of Dien Bien Phu. In his address, Professor Doctor Nguyen Xuan Thang, President of the Academy, highlighted the importance of studying the reasons behind the victory and its significance in strengthening unity and mutual support between nations and peace lovers around the world. The delegates hailed the historic importance of the victory in Vietnam’s resistance war against French colonialists in general and for national liberation movements in the world. Professor Doctor Vladimir Kolotov is from Saint Petersburg National University: “The Dien Bien Phu battle is a social science phenomenon. It is a typical example of the Vietnamese people’s strength and wisdom. The Dien Bien Phu victory created a turning point in Vietnam’s history and future and marked a glorious milestone for national liberation movements around the world”.
Delegates at the seminar praised the creative and wise leadership of the Vietnamese Party, President Ho Chi Minh, the Central Command Committee and the Defense Ministry in selecting a strategic location and its combat tactics and in mobilizing all the people to join the campaign. On the same day, Binh Duong province held a ceremony to present awards for a writing contest about the Dien Bien Phu victory.
Also on May 5, the Ministry of Information and Communications opened the National Press Centre in Dien Bien city to serve the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory. The Ministry in coordination with Dien Bien Provincial People’s Committee launched a special stamp collection to mark the victory. The stamps are modern graphic designs depicting images of Dien Bien Phu Victory monument and Ban flowers, the typical flower of the north-western region.
In Ho Chi Minh city, the Communications and Education Commission of the Municipal Party’s Committee organized a workshop on the eternal historical values of the victory as well as the Ho Chi Minh campaign. Presentations at the workshop highlighted the importance of and lessons learned from the victory. They praised the outstanding leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh.
