Prof. Dr. Do Quyet, Director of Military Medical Academy, which involves in NanoCovax vaccine development and trials, said NanoCovax is ready for emergency licensing.
“The Military Medical Academy and the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City have injected 12,000 people so far, more than 11,000 people in the North have completed their injections in phase 3. Today, I can confidently say that this vaccine is safe and effective based on its immunogenicity and request a report to the Ministry of Health and the National Ethics Council to consider licensing,” said Mr. Quyet.
In addition, Vietnamese companies have secured the transfer of vaccine technology from abroad for domestic production. Vietnam's biggest private conglomerate Vingroup has signed a deal for the domestic manufacturing rights to California-based Arcturus's vaccines, including ARCT-154 that targets fast-spreading variants such as the Delta strain.
Two Vietnamese companies - VABIOTECH and AIC have signed a deal with Japanese pharmaceutical firm Shionogi. The deal targeted the transfer of the Recombinant SARS-CoV-2 Spike Protein, a baculovirus expression vector system.
Another contract involving Russian Sputnik V vaccine was inked between VABIOTECH, DS-Bio, and the Russian Direct Investment Fund, with the Vietnamese side being in charge of packaging the vaccine tubes from the semi-finished products.
At Thursday meeting with the Ministry of Health and the National Ethics Council on research and production of domestic COVID-19 vaccines, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized equal access to all vaccines, saying "the best vaccine is the licensed vaccine, which is administered earliest and fastest.” He said it’s necessary to tackle obstacles concerning procedures while ensuring scientific protocols, safety and efficacy of the vaccines.
“The coordination between scientists, managers, producers, and technology transferors under the coordination of the Ministry of Health needs to be tighter and more effective. It's all for the sake of people's lives, health, and national interests. Scientific procedures and testing procedures must be rigorously documented, with special attention to safety and immunogenicity,” said Prime Minister Chinh.
