(VOVWORLD) - The Phu Gia “horse” conical hat-making process in Binh Dinh province has been recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

Phu Gia, a 300-year-old village in Cat Tuong commune, Phu Cat district, about 35km northeast of Quy Nhon city, has long been known for its traditional craft of making “horse” conical hats, which were produced exclusively for royalty and the rich to wear while riding horses.
75-year-old Do Van Lang, who has been making horse hats for more than 6 decades, expressed his joy when the craft became a national intangible cultural heritage.
He said: "People in Phu Gia horse hat village are very happy. This is a great motivation for my family and all Phu Gia villagers to create more beautiful hats to promote our traditional craft.”
Nguyen Van Hung, Chairman of the Phu Cat district People's Committee, said that the recognition has raised people’s awareness of protecting intangible cultural heritage:
“We will have a detailed plan to maintain production and promote the craft village. Phu Cat district’s authority and the people will expand the production scale by enhancing training for young people. We’ll create an exhibition area to display our products,” said Hung.
