Mr. Chinh said typhoon Yagi has caused serious consequences and its circulation will continue to cause heavy rain and floods, especially in the northern mountainous provinces. He requested localities to immediate assess the situation, support affected families, and carry out work to promptly handle issues related to people's lives, production, and landslides and subsidence.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reported that typhoon Yagi is the strongest in the East Sea in the past 30 years. The typhoon and its circulation widely impact 26 provinces and cities from the Tonkin to Thanh Hoa.

By 7 a.m Sunday, localities have not yet reported accurate statistics of damages due to power outages and communication loss.

According to preliminary reports, the super typhoon has killed 10 people and injured about 200 people. 25 ships were sank while anchored in Quang Ninh. Widespread power outages and communication loss occurred in Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Hai Duong, and Hanoi.

About 3,300 houses were damaged; more than 400 electric poles were broken; countless of shops, offices, and schools had their roofs blown off, while thousands of urban trees were uprooted.

121,500 ha of rice and crops were inundated. over 5,000 fruit trees were damaged, and over 1,000 aquaculture cages were damaged and swept away.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested the Government Office to immediately set up working groups to visit affected localities in Sunday afternoon to promptly assess the situation.

“It’s necessary to quickly find missing people. The army and police forces enhance activities to help localities. Injured people must be promptly treated. Localities should help the families organize funerals for the deaths. We must not let anyone be hungry and be homeless. We must not let pupils have no schools to go, and sick people have no treatment. Problems with electricity, water, telecommunications, and other essential services must be fixed quickly. We must urgently and accurately count the damage in order to find appropriate and effective solutions. Activities must be focused on preventing circulation, floods, landslides, and flash floods.”

PM. Chinh conveyed condolences and sympathy of Party General Secretary and President To Lam, other Party and State leaders, to the affected families, units and localities.

He said that he and Deputy Prime Ministers would personally visit affected areas to oversee recovery efforts following the conference.
