Once in production, the kits will be exported and provide international support in the global fight against the COVID-19 epidemic. Professor Dr Do Quyet, Director of the Military Medical Academy, said the real-time RT-PCR test kit could detect the latest strain of the virus for domestic use and global fight against Covid-19.
He said: “The test kits have been sent to world renowned scientific journals and the WHO, which has asked for the Academy’s permission for sharing the research process with international labs for further deployment and application.”
The test kits, jointly developed by the Military Medical Academy and Viet A Corporation, have been independently tested by the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology for sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and repeatability with the test results being similar to the biological kits produced by the US’s Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and WHO.
The test kits will cost between 17 and 28 US dollars. The production capacity of test kits will be able to fully meet domestic demand and will be used for export in order to provide international assistance in the global fight against Covid-19.
