Vietnam Government assures religious freedom

(VOV) – A review conference of the Ordinance of Religions and Beliefs took place on Monday in Ho Chi Minh city.

Present were representatives from the Ministry of Interior, the Government’s Committee for Religious Affairs and religious dignitaries in the southern provinces and cities. The Ordinance of Religions and Beliefs was promulgated in June, 2004 and has taken effect since November 15 of the same year. According to Head of the Government’s Committee for Religious Affairs Pham Dung, the ordinance has now come to fruition. Most religious dignitaries and followers and many international organizations have praised the revised policies of the Party and State towards religions. The revision of 8-year enforcement of the ordinance will be the basis for building a Law on Religions and Beliefs which will further promote the right of religious freedom in Vietnam.
