Held within the framework of the 55th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) and bilateral activities in Switzerland, the seminar was designed exclusively for Vietnam by the WEF, serving as a platform to shape the agenda for the 16th session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD16) to be hosted by Vietnam later this year.

Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary-General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) expressed admiration for Vietnam’s economic growth, which has averaged 7% over the past 30 years, highlighting Vietnam’s economic achievements, regional integration, and enhanced diplomatic standing. She said Vietnam has become a model for reshaping the future of global trade and development.

Last week, announcing Vietnam’s hosting of the UNCTAD 16 Conference in October, Grynspan said that holding the conference in a dynamic, open, and successfully integrated country like Vietnam marks a significant turning point for UNCTAD.

"Vietnam represents, not just a development success story, but a testament to how trade and development can work together. What is particularly important is Vietnam's strong commitment to inclusive growth, a priority for UNCTAD 16," said Rebeca Grynspan.

Speaking at the seminar, PM Chinh called for a people-centred, inclusive and global approach, and urged countries to jointly fight protectionism and boost multilateral trade for development. In his view, it is necessary to fully embrace the smart era, focusing on geopolitical and security, economic, environmental and social dimensions. He highlighted Vietnam’s commitment to preparing its resources for the new era with an approach rooted in thinking and vision, with motivation stemming from innovation, and with strength derived from the people and businesses.

Vietnam attaches importance to hosting UNCTAD16, welcoming delegates from around the world, he said, adding that the chosen venue will showcase the country's rich cultural heritage and values, offering participants a unique opportunity to share ideas, engage in meaningful dialogues and explore Vietnam’s landscapes and its people

Experts, scholars, and leaders of international organizations praised Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements, particularly its effective participation in global supply chains and successful implementation of its "leave no one behind" policy. They commended Vietnam for rising to the top 15 in the Global Innovation Index, becoming a model of innovation, and demonstrating remarkable adaptability and resilience in the face of global economic fluctuations.
