This is the first time Vietnam has had a network of satellite-based continuously operating reference stations (CORS) meeting international standards.

Dr. Phan Ngoc Mai, Deputy Director of the General Department of Survey, Mapping, and Geoinformation, said the project will apply global satellite navigation technologies to Vietnam’s natural resources and environmental sector and the mapping industry in particular. It will meet  requirements in the highly precise positioning of the transport, construction and agriculture sectors.

Under a national plan, Vietnam will have 160 global satellite navigation stations.

The network of stations will help detect movements of tectonic plates, improve weather forecasting, and provide data to the national  program on climate change response.
