Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and other ASEAN leaders will meet with US President Joe Biden in Washington D.C. marking the 45th anniversary of relations between the two sides.

Talking to a Washington-based VOV correspondent, Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung said the meeting will offer an opportunity for leaders to present, introduce, and consult each other on the development direction moving forward.

“The US is one of ASEAN's most important dialogue partners. Vietnam and other ASEAN members have always attached great importance to promoting relations with major countries, especially the US,” said Dung.

He added, “Vietnam supports and has made lots of contributions to enhancing understanding, mutual respect, and win-win cooperation between ASEAN and the US. Vietnam supports the constructive and responsible involvement of the US in the region, contributing to building a united and strong ASEAN, and maintaining a stable, peaceful, and cooperative environment in the region. Vietnam also supports the US’s participation in ASEAN-led mechanisms and in cooperation with Mekong countries through the US-Mekong Partnership mechanism.”

According to the Ambassador, PM Chinh will meet US Government officials, Congress people, business people, and scholars. He will meet with Vietnamese community representatives in the US and senior officials of the UN. The PM will deliver a key speech at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
