(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam’s central provinces have enhanced communications to improve people’s awareness on responsible fishing in line with the EC’s recommendations to combat illegal, unreported, unregulated fishing.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien led a delegation to examine fishing activities in Quang Ngai and Quang Nam province and Da Nang city on Friday and Saturday.
Ngo Tan, Deputy Director of Quang Nam province’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: “All off-shore fishing boats of over 15 meters long will install tracking devices according to the Fishery Law and a government resolution. All fishing boats have to follow regulations on registration, fishing license, crew registration, and production report.”

Ho Ky Minh, Vice Chairman of Da Nang city’s People’s Committee, said: “All fishing boats have installed tracking devices and given one 1st year free subscription. They also have boat insurance in which the government is in charge of 50%, the city 40%, and the boat owner 10%.”
Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien asked localities to strictly abide by the EC’s recommendations and the government’s fishing regulations.
