Co-organized by the HCM City University of Economics and the Khanh Hoa provincial People’s Committee, the event brought together 50 scientists from the US, South Korea, Italy, Malaysia, and Singapore, who delivered 30 presentations highlighting Khanh Hoa’s strategic location on the East Sea, its 500 km coastline, and deep-water ports in Van Phong, Cam Ranh, and Ca Na. The province’s waters feature Vietnam’s largest coral reef system and the country’s only unique upwelling zone.

These advantages make Khanh Hoa ideal for developing fisheries, aquaculture, and marine tourism. It also stands out with potential for developing marine economy, renewable energy, marine biotechnology and logistics.

Associate Professor Dr. Trinh Tu Anh, Director of the Institute of Smart Urban Management of the HCM City University of Economics, said: "Khanh Hoa needs to develop a sustainable ocean economy strategy to reshape its image of a tourist destination that attracts many visitors but generates a lot of emissions. We need to develop a sustainable ocean economy with the participation of all stakeholders.”

Experts proposed that Khanh Hoa apply AI in marine monitoring and management and develop nature-based coastal cities, renewable energy, and smart port infrastructure.
