Deputy Minister of National Defense Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien made the statement at a conference in Hanoi on Thursday reviewing the missions of Engineering Unit Rotation 3 and Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 6 following their successful completion of United Nations peacekeeping operations.

Mr. Chien, who also heads the Ministry of National Defense’s Steering Committee on Vietnam’s participation in UN peacekeeping operations, reaffirmed that expanding peacekeeping activities is a consistent policy in Vietnam’s foreign affairs orientation.

The Ministry of National Defense has proposed broadening Vietnam’s peacekeeping presence to include five new types of units — a mechanized infantry unit, a communications unit, a military police or supervision unit, an airport support unit, and a multi-purpose transport helicopter unit.

Senior Lieutenant General Chien commended the outstanding performance of the Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 6, comprising 63 personnel, which served at the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), and Engineering Unit Rotation 3, with 184 personnel, deployed to the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA). Both units have now safely returned home after successfully completing their missions.

He called on the units and personnel to continue upholding their professionalism and sense of responsibility, further promoting the image of Vietnam’s Blue Berets, and remaining ready to take on and excel in all future assignments.
