Speaking on Tuesday at a meeting of the National Steering Committee on Combating Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing, the Prime Minister said this effort would contribute to socio-economic development, safeguard Vietnam’s maritime sovereignty and sovereign rights, and strengthen the country’s international political, diplomatic, and strategic standing.
“We are determined to have the EC’s yellow card lifted by 2025, without any delay. To achieve this, Party committees, local authorities, and the entire society must be fully engaged. We need to review and adjust the legal framework and issue a fast-tracked resolution to promptly address any legal gaps. It’s also important to restructure the Steering Committee and improve law enforcement capabilities at all levels,” he said.
Prime Minister Chinh urged the establishment of a task force led by a Deputy Minister of Public Security, which will work with the Supreme People’s Procuracy and the Supreme People’s Court, to definitively resolve ongoing cases. He also called for intensified communications on fisheries regulations, especially IUU fishing rules, among fishermen, relevant organizations, and individuals.
