(VOVWORLD) - The daily life, culture, heritage and natural scenery of Vietnam’s southern region are depicted in watercolor paintings exhibited at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi. This is the first time that watercolor artists from Ho Chi Minh city have held a joint exhibition at this iconic site in the capital city.

Twenty artists from southern provinces brought to the exhibition “Southern watercolor paintings” different views of the region. Visitors can try watercolor painting themselves.
The exhibition is an opportunity for painters from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city to share experience and reintroduce watercolor as a medium for painting, which seems to have been neglected in recent times.
“We have always encouraged and created a venue for artists who love watercolor. We have organized trips for Vietnamese painters to participate in international exhibitions as well as exchanges between Vietnamese and foreign artists. We want to promote the development of watercolor painting in Vietnam and the world,” said Painter Ho Hung, the head of the Sai Gon Watercolor Club.

More than 100 paintings at the exhibition feature the people, daily activities, culture, heritages, and landscapes of provinces and cities in south Vietnam.
Painter Doan Quoc said, “This is the first exhibition that has gathered watercolor artists with different painting techniques and perspectives. It depicts the southern region’s beautiful scenery and cultures.”
Professor Le Van Kieu, Director of the Center for Scientific and Cultural Activities of the Temple of Literature, said, “This exhibition gives visitors a glimpse of art in an ancient space. The harmony of modernity and ancientness makes the event more amazing.”
The Vietnam Fine Arts Association plans to make a southern watercolor painting exhibition an annual event at the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university.
