Continuing a 75-year history, the 14th National Assembly carried on Vietnam’s determination to be independent and free and build a State of the people, by the people, and for the people.

Last session contributes to whole term’s success

The 12-day session from March 24 to April 8 was shorter than other sessions of the 14th term, but it was no less important. The session reviewed the performance of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches and other State agencies to draw lessons for national development.

In addition to hearing reports from the legislative, executive and judicial agencies, the National Assembly deputies devoted time to filling 25 leadership positions, including National Assembly Chairperson, President, and Prime Minister and ensuring a smooth transfer of leadership at State agencies.

Venerable Thich Bao Nghiem, a deputy representing Hanoi, said, “Believing in the leaders’ promises and oaths to the National Assembly and voters across Vietnam, we trust that in the next 5 years, our country will see greater reforms and development and will continue to overcome all difficulties as we have been doing.”

Deputy Nghiem Vu Khai, who represents Hai Phong city, said, “I think what we achieved at this session is very important as Vietnam prepares to elect the 15th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels. A new generation will take over this important work in subsequent years.”

Closing a successful term

In her opening remarks on March 24, the then National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said,  “We are proud of what we have achieved in this term."

In the past 5 years, the National Assembly has worked closely with the President, Government, agencies and organizations to fulfill assigned tasks, consolidate the strength for the Party, the people, and the army to gain further achievements, elevate Vietnam’s status, and consolidate the people's trust in the Party and State. National Assembly delegations and deputies have made this  National Assembly term a great success.

In his closing remarks on Thursday, newly-elected National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said, “In the past 5 years, with responsibility, passion, wisdom and devotion, National Assembly deputies have stayed close to voters, thought about the people’s aspirations, and been concerned about important issues. They have been realistic and proposed radical, practical solutions, breathing life into legislative debates. I hope this spirit will continue no matter what position each of you holds.”

The reforms, decisions, and approval of key leaders made by the 2016-2021 National Assembly will make it easier for the next National Assembly to fulfill its mission of representing the will and aspirations of voters nationwide.
