Each year, about 300,000 foreigners visit Vietnam for medical treatment. 40% of them come to Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnam earns 2 billion USD per year from these medical tourists.

The newly announced medical tourism products are health care service packages at top-tier hospitals combined with shopping, eating, and resort experiences and visits to tourist spots in Ho Chi Minh City. The city hopes to soon become a leading healthcare center in Southeast Asia.

Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Tourism, said, “As HCMC’s medical level is fairly high in ASEAN, we’re focusing on ASEAN countries. We will later expand to Northeast Asian and European nations.”

In recent years, HCMC’s health sector has promoted health checkups, health screenings, advanced treatment techniques, traditional medicine, and in vitro fertilization (IVF) at Tu Du Hospital.

Doctor Hong Cong Danh, Deputy Director of Tu Du Hospital, recalled in 1997 Tu Du became the first hospital in Vietnam to successfully perform IVF treatment.

“We have gained many achievements in this field and now have progressed to a higher level. We can do genetic screening tests and ovarian tissue cryopreservation. We’re confident in our expertise and facilities compared to other clinics in the world and our prices are competitive,” said Danh.

HCMC will revise its "Medical Tourism Handbook 2018” to include English, Thai, Cambodian, Laotian, and Chinese.
