Resolve to build a stronger party

(VOVworld) Vietnam marks the 82nd anniversary of the founding of its Communist Party on February 3rd, a momentous event that created a breakthrough for Vietnam’s revolutionary cause. This year’s celebration takes place when Vietnam renew commitments to party reform and consolidation to improve the party’s leadership and capacity to meet the new challenges. This task is crucial and relevant to “the existence of the party and regime” as Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong put it at a Party Central Committee meeting late last December.

Pham Quang Nghi, Politburo member and Secretary of Hanoi’s Party Committee, said that since its establishment, the Communist  Party of Vietnam (CPV) has never neglected its task of building a  party strong in political, ideological and organizational aspects. Nghi added that the Party has paid constant attention to the education and training of its members. At present, CPV considers party building so urgent  that any failure will challenge its leadership role. Professor Duong Phu Hiep, former Secretary General of the Party Central Committee’s Theoretical Council, said that the resolution adopted at the 4th plenum of the 11th Party Central Committee candidly pointed out the most vital issues: “It’s difficult to solve different problems simultaneously, but breakthrough measures are needed. Regarding the organizational issue, party members and leaders should be both competent and virtuous as they will be role models for the people to follow. Democracy should be upheld so that the public can critique party members and leaders, and lower ranking officials can give feedback to higher ranking officials”.

Human resource development has a key role in party building. Competent leaders will motivate members to carry out party tasks, improving party credibility.  Associate Professor and Dr. Nguyen The Thang from the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Public Administration told VOV: “In my opinion, our leaders’ sense of justice and courage are decisive factors for successful party building and rectification. Besides each party member’s self-discipline, supervision by inspectors and people are necessary”.

The past 82 years of party operation showed that party members’ quality and leaders’ responsibility ensured the party’s survival and the ultimate success of the Vietnamese revolution. Associate Professor and Dr. Vu Van Phuc, Editor in chief of the Communist Review, says: “The first step is to improve the quality of party members at grassroots levels. Second, the quality of party cell operations needs to be enhanced. Third, lessons should be drawn from experience to continue upholding the party ‘s leadership role. Party committees should pay more attention to building a strong contingent of   party members and to party inspections”.

Party building and rectification are difficult, but are tasks the party and the people are determined to accomplish. By doing so, the Communist Party of Vietnam will continue its historical mission of leading the people to successfully build and defend a socialist Vietnam.
