Russian edition of “Tell the Story of Pilot Bay and Comrades” released

(VOVWORLD) - The Russian edition of “Tell the Story of Pilot Bay and Comrades” was officially released last Thursday, marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Russia. The book presents real, deeply moving stories about pilot hero Nguyen Van Bay, a legend of the skies of Vietnam during the resistance war for national liberation.

Colonel Nguyen Van Bay, Hero of the People’s Armed Forces, shot down seven enemy aircraft in 93 air battles. He was one of 19 Vietnamese pilots to earn the title of “Ace,” awarded to those who downed five or more enemy planes.

Written by Nguyen Quang Chanh, the book is a collection of moving stories about Bay that portray a hero, comradeship, maternal love, sacrifice, loss, and the enduring desire for peace of an entire generation. There’s a story about the poignant day Bay reunited with his mother after 22 years, and memories of comrades like Vo Van Man, a fellow MiG-17 pilot who died in combat.

The book also describes the post-war life of Bay, a humble man who is close to his neighbors in the southern delta province of Dong Thap and continued contributing to his community, setting a bright example of morality, perseverance, and patriotism.

Author Nguyen Quang Chanh said: “This book tells little stories that readers will feel and remember. What I admire most about Bay is his humility, his being always ready to help others, especially the poor. When the Russian translators read the manuscript, they said it deserved to be a standalone book about Mr. Bay, who is not just a hero on the front line but also in everyday life.”

Translator and Meritorious Teacher Vu The Khoi, one of the first to read the Russian manuscript, said: “The book vividly portrays a heroic farmer pilot who is fierce in spirit yet generous in heart, reflecting the signature characteristic of southern people. I believe Russian readers will embrace it, as Russia, too, has air force heroes.”

“Tell the Story of Pilot Bay and Comrades” is scheduled for release in Russia at the end of October.
