Vietnamese top leader’s state visit strengthens Vietnam-China relations

(VOVWORLD) - Party General Secretary and President To Lam, his wife, and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation just concluded a state visit to the People's Republic of China from August 18-20, at the invitation of Chinese General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and his wife. The visit was successful in all respects, making important contributions to building the Vietnam-China Community with a shared future and promoting peace, stability, and development regionally and globally.

The visit reached common perceptions on further strengthening the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. The Vietnam-China Joint Statement specifies the common perceptions and agreements between the two sides. Ministries, sectors, and localities of the two countries signed cooperation documents in multiple fields toward building the Vietnam-China community with a shared future.

The visit gains fruitful results in multiple areas

With 18 activities conducted during 2 days, the visit gained fruitful results. At the meetings, Vietnamese General Secretary and President To Lam and General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and other leaders of China agreed on many common perceptions on the relationship between the two Parties and countries and the current global and regional situation.

Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung said: “The top leaders of the two Parties and states affirmed their high regard for bilateral relations. General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed the Vietnamese Party and State’s policies of attaching importance and giving top priority to relations with China. The General Secretary and President and key leaders of China affirmed that Vietnam is a priority in China's neighboring diplomacy policy. Both sides consider this their strategic choice.”

The two sides agreed to continue maintaining a high-level strategic dialogue and building relations between the two leaders of the two Parties and states, and between senior leaders of Vietnam and China. They agreed on major directions to effectively implement high-level agreements and common perceptions, including those reached between General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and General Secretary and President Xi Jinping over the last 10 years.

Vietnam and China will strengthen cooperation in strategic fields including diplomacy, national defense, public security, trade, and investment. Both sides reaffirmed the importance of preserving and promoting peace, stability, and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, and agreed to handle disputes through peaceful means based on international law and the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

In addition to the Joint Statement, the two sides signed 16 documents on practical cooperation in multiple fields.

During the visit to China, General Secretary and President To Lam visited Guangzhou city, Guangdong province, where President Ho Chi Minh carried out revolutionary activities and established the Vietnam-China friendly relationship 100 years ago.

General Secretary and President To Lam's State visit to China drew the attention of the Chinese media and the appreciation of Chinese experts and scholars, who said the activities conducted during the visit reflect the two sides’ determination to deepen practical cooperation.

Yang Danzhi, a researcher of Southeast Asia at the Chinese Academy for Social Sciences, said: “The visit reflects a high regard for the Vietnam-China bilateral relationship. The visit will certainly enhance bilateral relations in a sustainable manner, and have a positive impact on relations between China and Southeast Asian countries.”

Cui Zhenhai, Head of the Hong Kong (China) Academy for Social Investment, said: “Senior leaders of the two countries attach great importance to this visit. The members of the Vietnamese delegation are mostly leaders of ministries and sectors. The two sides exchanged views on specific fields to create a solid foundation for the extensive long-term development of China-Vietnam relations.”

Vietnam’s diplomatic imprints

The visit of General Secretary and President To Lam takes place with Vietnam and China about to celebrate the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations and organize the "Year of Vietnam-China Humanistic Exchange" in 2025. The visit will contribute to the traditional friendship between Vietnam and China and create a stronger social foundation.

The visit was an important external activity for Vietnam this year, implementing Vietnam's foreign policy, which includes giving top priority to relations with China.

The high-level agreements and other results achieved during the visit will continue to consolidate a favorable external situation, creating a peaceful and stable environment, and bringing more favorable conditions for Vietnam to promote socio-economic development, enhance its position and prestige, and successfully implement the goals set by the 13th National Party Congress.
