(VOVWORLD) - Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin is paying a visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, marking a significant milestone in the bilateral relationship as the two countries are celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties (1950-2025). The visit is of great importance as Vietnam enters a new era of development, seeking to strengthen cooperation with strategic partners.

The Russian Prime Minister’s visit reinforces the positive momentum of the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and provides an opportunity for the leaders to discuss strategic directions for bilateral ties in the future. This is also an opportunity for leaders of the two countries to define cooperative priorities in economics, trade, energy, science and technology, education, culture, and national defense and security.
Maintaining political trust
Throughout the 75-year history of the Vietnam-Russia relations, high-level delegation exchanges have played a crucial role, providing opportunities for the two sides to discuss orientations and strategic goals and resolve obstacles in bilateral ties through the political determination and clear direction of their high-ranking leaders.
In 2024, Russian President V. Putin visited Vietnam in June; Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited Russia and attended the expanded BRICS Summit in October; National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man paid an official visit to Russia in September; and high-ranking leaders regularly held phone talks.
The direct meetings and exchanges between high-ranking leaders have guided bilateral relations, said Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi: “The visit takes place on the 75th anniversary of the Vietnam-Russia diplomatic relations. This is an opportunity for both sides to look back on the 75-year development of bilateral ties and discuss measures to promote cooperation in the new situation. The visit begins a new year with many activities.”
A message about further development of bilateral ties
The 75-year development of bilateral ties has resulted in sustainable friendship and high political trust which is the basis for the two countries to continue on the new journey.
Over the past 25 years, Russia has gone through several major milestones, overcome numerous challenges, and obtained remarkable achievements. In his new term, Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered a clear message of steering Russia toward strong development and establishing a prominent position in the region and the world. Russia consistently affirms that Vietnam is a reliable partner and a key priority in its "Turn to the East" policy, expressing a desire to enhance cooperation with Vietnam in all areas.
Vietnam is entering a new era of national rise with a determination to become a high-income country. In such a context, developing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries is inevitable, said Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi: “The two countries have huge potential for cooperation and supplement each other. Russia is a large country with high-quality human resources and good education. Vietnam will continue to uphold the policy of considering education the top national policy. The two countries will have a lot of opportunities and potential for stronger cooperation in the future.”
The leaders and people of Vietnam and Russia have chosen to continue strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and expanding substantive and effective cooperation in all areas and raise economic and trade cooperation to match the political relationship. The visit is an opportunity for the two sides to review and discuss solutions to existing problems and cooperation projects, especially in energy and industry.
