At Ta Phin Primary School in Sa Pa, heating lamps have been installed in all classrooms, said teacher Dam Thi Hoa. “It’s freezing cold, so we close all doors and windows to keep the children warm. Additionally, we organize physical activities in the multi-purpose hall to shield them from rain and mist,” said Mrs. Hoa.

Principal of Ta Phin Primary School, Ms. Ong Thi Hien, said they have prepared more blankets and warm clothes for the children. “For children who do not receive close care from their parents, we provide spare clothes to ensure they stay warm. We also arrange clothes for change if the school children get wet during their way to school.”

The Education and Training Office of Sa Pa town has overseen the facilities of nearly 60 schools to ensure adequate conditions for more than 22,000 students. Head of the Office Nguyen Truong Chinh said they closely follow the weather forecast to consider allowing the school children to stay at home on freezing cold days. “Usually in October, we ask schools to review the school’s conditions and facilities. Schools are now financially independent, so they take active measures to keep their pupils warm during winter.”

Boarding schools have distributed warm clothing and provided larger meals for the pupils.
