(VOVWORLD) -Minister of National Defense of Vietnam General Phan Van Giang on Thursday stressed continued bilateral defense cooperation as a key pillar in the Vietnam-Russia relationship.

At a reception for Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia Senior Lieutenant General Alexander Vasilyevich Fomin in Hanoi, General Giang suggested that the two sides continue to implement defense cooperation in accordance with the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia, on the basis of international law and practice, foreign policy, law and practical conditions of Vietnam.

He urged for the effective promotion of existing cooperation mechanisms and further cooperation between the military unit levels.

Senior Lieutenant General Fomin said he believes that bilateral defense cooperation will be further consolidated and boosted, and maintain its role as a key pillar in the relationship between the two countries.

The Russian Deputy Minister of National Defense is in Vietnam for the 7th defense strategy dialogue between the two countries.
