OMO’s campaign to plant additional one million green trees in Vietnam by 2025

(VOVWORLD) - Statistics released by the Vietnam Administration of Forestry (VNFOREST) have disclosed that protected forests cover just nearly one third of Vietnam’s area while intact primary forests cover as little as 0.25%. Aware of the urgency and gravity of afforestation, OMO Vietnam has launched a campaign to encourage tree-planting to reach the aim of one million green trees in Vietnam by 2025. Launching activities online and offline, the campaign has received a positive response from the public.
OMO’s 2021 campaign “Get dirty for a green shield of Vietnam” is a continuation of its afforestation initiative started in 2019. OMO believes that anyone can make a forest by planting just a single tree. It encourages people to plant trees at home or elsewhere then post their photos and stories to OMO’s facebook fanpage. With each photo posted on the page, OMO presents one seedling to the national parks in Quang Binh and Quang Nam central provinces, which have been disastrously affected by flashfloods as a result of forest quality decline.

My Linh of Phu Nhuan district, Ho Chi Minh City, participated in the campaign with her kids. She said, “As soon as I got to know about OMO’s campaign ‘Get dirty for a green shield of Vietnam’, I was enthralled by its idea that have trees planted at home symbolically represent seedlings in a bank created by OMO. My kids love it and we plant three small trees in our balcony. I believe other families will love it and do it, too, so we will have a lot more trees for our planet. Thank you OMO for giving me this chance to contribute to our community, though just little.”

As part of this campaign, OMO sponsored a video released on Youtube starring singer Duc Phuc and the Voice Kids runner-up Ha Anh. Their song “Miraculous smudge” speaks of the worries of two little friends when they see their Earth occupied by monsters of pollution. Recruiting the help from their families, the children plant trees, which they regard as a small gesture to make big changes for the environment. Finally, the pollution monsters are completely defeated. Astronaut duo Ha Anh - Duc Phuc are proud and grateful at the success of their mission - bringing green back to the planet.

Singer Duc Phuc said, “I was so excited to be invited by OMO to this campaign . I said yes without hesitation because this campaign is so meaningful and inspirational. I felt so great to be part of it as I delivered the message of 'trees for your home, forests for our planet’ through music. Each tree you plant at home means a seed OMO helps you give the forests. I’m so in love with it.”

The facebook group “Nghien Nha” (Home Addicts) which has more than 240,000 members responded to OMO’s call by asking its members to show how green their houses are on the page.

The video on “Her 86m2” channel, in which owner Dao Thu Thuy taught her little daughter gardening, captured her thought about the connection between children, nature, and our future as Thuy put, “Gardening is a great way to inspire children’s appreciation of life” or “If we plant a tree, we have only one tree but if we inspire a thousand people to plant trees, we will have one thousand trees”.

More than 10,000 photos of tree-planting in response to this campaign have been posted on facebook. The campaign ended with a tree-planting event in Quang Nam province.

At this event, Nguyen Dinh Duy, OMO representative, said, “OMO insists on encouraging Vietnamese children to dare to think and act for the development of their own and of the community. Vietnam has been hit hard by natural disasters. Footage about the consequences people in the central region has been suffering really breaks our hearts. OMO’s constant aspiration is accompanying them in this endeavor.”

In 2021, OMO presented 40,000 seeds to Song Thanh National Park in Quang Nam province and the Dong Chau-Khe Nuoc Trong Nature Reserve in Quang Binh province.

In 2020, OMO also gave seeds to two national parks, Phong Nha - Ke Bang and Cat Tien, and 6,000 rare and eco-friendly trees were seeded. In 2019, OMO planted 30,000 trees, provided facilities for 10 localities, and sponsored heart-shaped green areas in Hanoi. OMO is working vigorously to fulfill its goal of planting an additional one million trees in Vietnam.
