Vietnam’s Ta Xua ranks among world’s best off-grid travel spots for 2026
(VOVWORLD) - A cloud-hunting hotspot in Vietnam’s Son La province has been named one of the top 26 “off-the-radar” destinations to visit in 2026 by New Delhi Television (NDTV), a prominent Indian media outlet.
Ta Xua is not merely the name of a single mountain peak. It refers to a vast mountainous area spanning Ta Xua Commune, Lang Chieu, and Hang Dong, covering more than 230 square kilometers. |
Located about 240 kilometers from Hanoi and more than 100 kilometers from the center of Moc Chau Commune, Ta Xua sits at an elevation of 1,500 to 1,800 meters above sea level. The area enjoys a cool climate year-round. From November to March is the best time for cloud hunting and mountain trekking. |
One of Ta Xua’s most iconic highlights is the so-called “Dinosaur Spine.” This narrow ridge trail, stretching about two kilometers along the mountain crest between deep valleys, offers an exhilarating experience for adventure seekers. |
Known as a cloud-hunting paradise, Ta Xua captivates visitors with its seas of white clouds drifting gently through the valleys. |
At sunrise or sunset, when the sun hovers just above the cloud layer, the landscape transforms into breathtaking waves of clouds. |
Ta Xua draws a growing number of visitors thanks to its unspoiled beauty and minimal commercialization. This appeal is the result of ongoing efforts to preserve the natural landscape while developing environmentally friendly and sustainable tourism experiences. |
Do Van Xiem, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ta Xua Commune, said that both local authorities and residents are working hard to promote Ta Xua’s natural scenery and cultural identity to domestic and international visitors. Activities such as cultural and culinary fairs, ethnic cultural festivals, and most recently the Son La Ultra Trail 100 race have drawn strong interest and participation from tourists and athletes. |
Held during the “golden time” for visiting Ta Xua, and featuring a stunning route across the Dinosaur Spine and through primeval forests, the Son La Ultra Trail 100 has attracted athletes from Japan, Russia, the United States, Denmark, and other countries, along with over 1,000 runners from across Vietnam. |
Ta Xua is a place where visitors can find moments of tranquility and genuine emotion amid the vast wilderness, completely removed from the hustle and bustle of major tourist hubs. |
