Another 130 kidnapped schoolchildren released in Nigeria

(VOVWORLD) -Nigerian authorities say they have secured the release of a further 130 schoolchildren kidnapped from a Catholic school in November.

Presidential spokesperson Sunday Dare said on X on Sunday that with another 130 abducted Niger state pupils released, none remain in captivity.

A total of 303 schoolchildren and 12 teachers were abducted by gunmen during the November 21 attack on St Mary’s Catholic School in north-central Nigeria’s Niger State.

A few days after the incident, security forces rescued at least 51 students and continued efforts to search for the remaining victims.

On December 8, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu confirmed the release of 100 students kidnapped and assured parents that federal and Niger State authorities were working to reunite all abducted students with their families.
