Lee, a close ally of President Yoon, resigned just one day after the opposition party filed a motion for his impeachment. Before him, Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun also stepped down in connection with the martial law controversy.
In the early hours of December 8, Kim voluntarily appeared at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office for questioning. According to The Korea Herald, Kim faces accusations of inciting violence, abuse of power, and obstruction of official duties related to his advice to the president regarding martial law. Authorities have imposed a travel ban on Kim as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, the main opposition Democratic Party of Korea announced plans to push for President Yoon’s impeachment on December 14, escalating political tensions in the country.
