Arab leaders back Egypt's 53 billion USD Gaza reconstruction plan

(VOVWORLD) - Addressing the closing ceremony of the Arab League Summit in Egypt's New Administrative Capital, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said that participating countries have approved Egypt's plan for Gaza's reconstruction.

The 53 billion USD plan aims to rebuild Gaza without requiring residents to relocate.

The plan will proceed in two phases: an initial early recovery phase to address immediate humanitarian needs, followed by a comprehensive reconstruction phase. Egyptian President el-Sisi emphasized that the reconstruction must be coupled with a clear pathway to peace, encompassing political and security dimensions.

This peace process will involve regional countries and require the support of the international community to achieve a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue.

El-Sisi said that Egypt, in collaboration with Palestine, has formed an administrative committee. This committee, composed of independent Palestinian experts and technocrats, will oversee relief efforts in Gaza.  It will also temporarily administer the territory to prepare for the Palestinian Authority's return.
