ASEAN, Canada pledge to strengthen cooperation

The 10th ASEAN-Canada dialogue concluded on Tuesday in Toronto, Canada, after reviewing the implementation of the joint statement 2010- 2015 ASEAN-Canada work plan. Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation especially on community establishment, integration, and connection towards development, narrowing the development gap and encouraging participation of Canadian enterprises. They also agreed to strengthen cooperation on economics, trade, investment, education, climate change, food and energy security, as well as marine stability and respecting international laws including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. Nguyen Tien Minh, Director of the Foreign Ministry’s Department of ASEAN, said that Viet Nam wants to boost the ASEAN-Canada dialogue and strengthen Vietnam – Canada bilateral cooperation. Viet Nam will focus on boosting cooperation in education, human resource training, oil exploration, infrastructure building, environmental protection, food security, agricultural produce processing, climate change measures and women and children’s rights.
