Relief items will include generators, mobile storage, and family kits. However, the greatest challenge now is transportation, as the airport in Tacloban was destroyed by the typhoon. Mr. Minh said ASEAN is ready to aid Vietnam’s recovery also.

Many regional and world organizations are supporting the government and people of the Philippines in their effort to recover from typhoon Haiyan. The UN announced plans to donate 300 million USD. Japan and the United Arab Emirates promised 10 million USD each and Australia will give 9.3 million USD. Meanwhile, the US Department of Defense has sent aircraft carrier USS George Washington to the Philippines to assist the recovery. The UK also dispatched an aircraft carrier and helicopter to the Philippines in addition to a 10 million pound aid package.
