Australia, UK, US conduct first large-scale military exercise under AUKUS alliance

(VOVWORLD) - Military personnel from Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom on Friday participated in what they considered the “first large-scale demonstration of advanced capabilities“ under trilateral security partnership AUKUS, as part of their Exercise Autonomous Warrior 2024 in Jervis Bay, Australia.

The joint military drill is aimed at enhancing advanced capability development, improving interoperability, and increasing the sophistication and scale of autonomous systems.

Japan is the only partner invited to participate in the exercise as an observer.

The systems demonstrated during Exercise Autonomous Warrior will deliver strike capability and persistent intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, said the Australian Department of Defence.

The initiative is a generational opportunity for the three nations to harness and uplift their “collective innovation enterprises and industrial bases, strengthen cooperation, and together deliver advanced capabilities” across their defence forces, said Australian Deputy Prime Minister, Richard Marles.
