“Last night in Kabul, the US ended 20 years of war in Afghanistan. We completed one of the biggest airlifts in history, with more than 120,000 people evacuated to safety. That number is more than double what most experts thought was possible, " said Biden.
Biden said the White House will continue diplomatic efforts to evacuate any Americans still in Afghanistan who want to leave, and insisted there will be no deadline for that effort. Although US troops have left Afghanistan, Biden said his administration will work to make sure the Taliban upholds its commitments, including providing safe exit for those who still wish to leave Afghanistan.
Biden promised further attacks against the ISIS affiliate in Afghanistan in retaliation for the deadly bombing last week which killed at least 170 people, including 13 US service members.
