(VOVWORLD) - Beginning next week, Brazil will impose new restrictions on citizens of certain Asian countries who use Brazil as a transit point to migrate to the US or Canada.

The move will affect migrants from Asian countries who require visas to remain in Brazil. It does not apply to people from Asian countries currently exempt from visas to Brazil, said the Brazilian Ministry of Justice. Under the new rules, travelers without visas will need to continue their journey or return home.
Since the beginning of last year, there has been chaos due to an influx of migrants arriving at the Sao Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport, according to the Brazilian Federal Police. To reach North America, many of these migrants follow a dangerous route from Sao Paulo to Peru, Central America and Mexico, and enter the US by crossing its southern border.
