Party General Secretary and President To Lam and other officials raise fund in support of storm victims, Hanoi, September 10, 2024.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, as of 1 PM on Tuesday, typhoon Yagi and its aftermath had left 146 people dead or missing and caused devastating damage to nearly 50,000 homes, as well as crops and livestock.

In his address, VFF President Do Van Chien called on people in Vietnam and abroad to join hands to help people in storm-hit areas quickly recover. Donors pledged more than 16 million USD at the launch ceremony, which was attended by Party General Secretary and President To Lam.

The same day, officials and employees of the Government Office and the Office of the Party Central Committee participated in separate donation drives to aid the affected communities. Agencies, organizations, and individuals across the country are contributing cash and in-kind goods and services.

"We have established young volunteer groups to assist recovery efforts and mobilized resources to help people, especially those in areas isolated by flooding," said Lang Van Chi,  Deputy Secretary of the Lang Son Provincial Youth Union.

The Vietnam-Japan Economic Cooperation Promotion Association donates 2,000 USD through the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese.

Representatives from the Vietnam-Japan Economic Cooperation Promotion Association, the Vietnamese Women's Association in Kansai, and the Bamboo Vietnamese Language School (Japan) donated 2,000 USD and one tonne of rice. The donations were channeled through the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese.  

"In recent days, we have stayed up late at night to follow the news from Vietnam. We are shocked by the losses. We hope our contributions will help ease the burden on the affected people,” Le Thuong, principal of the Bamboo Vietnamese Language School, said.
