The depression is forecast to be moving west north-west into the East Sea at a speed of approximately 20kph. It will then sustain its speed and gain strength into a storm, the eighth to hit the East Sea this year.

Vu Duc Long, vice director of the National Center of Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, said the new storm is likely to directly impact central Vietnam which have borne the brunt of the two subsequent storms in the past week.

Meteorologists have yet to anticipate the rainfall to be recorded in the coming days, but heavy downpour will certainly exacerbate flooding in the region.

Nangka, the seventh storm in the East Sea this year, weakened into a tropical low depression before making landfall in north-central Vietnam Wednesday. However, it is still causing torrential rain in the region.

Meteorologists have warned about severe flooding and landslides in low-lying and mountainous areas.
