Foreign Minister Qin Gang emphasized a spirit of solidarity and cooperation among countries in solving global problems. He said the message that China wants to send to the world is for countries to unite and avoid confrontation and conflict. Global governance needs to comply with international law under the UN Charter, and developing countries need to participate and have a greater say in international affairs.

Speaking of the China-US relationship, the issue most mentioned by reporters, Minister Qin Gang said he hopes the two will maintain their relationship for their own benefit and that of the rest of the world by identifying their common interests and shared responsibility.

Of the Taiwan issue, the Chinese Foreign Minister said Taiwan is China's core interest and the political foundation of China-US relations.

Regarding relations with Russia, Mr. Qin said the China-Russia relationship is built on the principle of no alliance, no confrontation, and no targeting of a third party.

In response to a question about the Ukraine crisis, Qin said China chooses peace over war, dialogue over sanctions, and cooling down the situation over fueling the flames, calling for calm, reason and dialogue among the parties involved. He said that the Ukraine crisis has entered a critical juncture, and neither conflict nor sanctions nor pressure will help bring about a solution to the problem.
