Infringement took place four days after a visit by President Joko Widodo to assert his nation’s sovereignty over Natuna district and Riau island.

In a press release following an inspection tour of the Indonesian air force last Saturday, Rear Admiral Yudo Margono said if Chinese fishing boats continue to violate Indonesia’s EEZ, Indonesian forces will arrest and make them stand trial. Margono said President Widodo has ordered agencies to take strong actions against further intrusions.
