(VOVworld) - The project “Climate change and water supply in the Mekong River Delta” made its debut on Friday in the southern province of Soc Trang. Participants also witnessed the kick-off of the construction of a surface water factory with a capacity of 10,000 m3/day. Present at the ceremony were local leaders and Simon Van der Burg, Consul General of the Netherlands in Ho Chi Minh City. Speaking at the event, Deputy Chairman of Soc Trang provincial People’s Committee Lam Van Man said that the project is of great significance. He added that it will contribute to the provincial development and help protect the local people’s health as Soc Trang province suffers from fast and strong effects of the climate change. With a total capital of approximately of 5 million USD, half of which is funded by the Dutch government, the project is implemented from September 2013 to April 2017.
