Countries are obliged to implement International Court of Justice’s rulings: Vietnamese Ambassador

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam supports the essential role of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in promoting peace, stability and justice, and is ready to cooperate with other countries and the Court to promote the rule of law at all levels, Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu, Assistant to Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday.

Mr. Vu, who heads the Vietnamese delegation attending a session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York to discuss the ICJ’s report for 2023 - 2024, said that all countries need to respect and fulfill their obligations under international law, including the obligation to implement the ICJ’s decisions and rulings.

He added that Vietnam, together with other key countries, has proposed that the UN General Assembly ask the ICJ to issue advice on the obligations of countries in relation to climate change to clarify the legal aspects of climate change and provide the precondition for effective and substantive implementation of commitments to green house gas emission reduction.
