Chairing a meeting of the National Steering Committee against IUU fishing in Hanoi, Deputy PM Ha emphasized the need to standardize data among ministries, sectors, and localities on issues raised by the European Commission (EC). He urged the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to submit a report on Vietnam’s anti-IUU efforts to the EC before December 31.
Mr. Ha asked the Ministry of Public Security to strictly handle cases of illegal fishing in foreign waters, while instructing the Ministry of National Defense to tighten control over maritime border areas and vessel departures and arrivals, and to bar ineligible vessels from going to sea.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment reported that no Vietnamese fishing vessels had violated foreign waters over the past week, adding that communication on Vietnam’s fight against IUU fishing has been intensified.
