Mr. Ha chaired a meeting on Thursday with ministries and sectors on a proposed policy to encourage the production and use of electric vehicles in Vietnam.
He requested that the Ministry of Transport should research and finalize vehicle standards and regulations to ensure compliance with higher environmental standards. It should also study policies to support the transition from gasoline- and diesel-powered private cars to green alternatives, as well as the conversion of public vehicles running on fossil fuels to green public transportation.
“The Ministry needs to provide recommendations for managing public transportation, including policies to secure funding for the transition, measures to support businesses investing in passenger transportation, and assistance for citizens,” said Mr. Ha.
The Deputy PM urged the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to promptly issue emission standards and regulations for operating vehicles and criteria for identifying areas and localities with high air pollution indexes that need to limit polluting vehicles and switch to green alternatives.
He asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to review the roadmap for fuel conversion in accordance with emission standards for vehicles in Vietnam, and propose incentives and a roadmap for the use of clean green fuels.
