Mr. Pham Duc Hung, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hoa Trach commune, Quang Tri province, said: "Relevant registration and inspection centers should be directed to integrate software systems capable of sending reminders to fishing vessel owners, similar to those used by motor vehicle registration centers. Vessel owners would receive a notification around 10 days before their documents expire."
Quang Tri has tightened inspections at fishing ports and fishing grounds and strengthened supervision to prevent fishing vessels that fail to meet legal requirements from operating at sea, as part of its efforts to combat IUU fishing.
In further efforts to combat IUU fishing, the Quang Tri provincial Border Guard Command is coordinating closely with the Sub-Department of Fisheries, fisheries surveillance forces, the police, and local authorities to investigate vessels that lose their monitoring signal or cross a maritime boundary.
The authorities are also enforcing strict management of vessels without registration, inspection, or operating license as well as vessels that don’t meet operational requirements, to ensure that all fishing vessels in the province are in compliance with regulations.
