(VOVworld) – Egypt’s government will repatriate Egyptian citizens, who had been evacuated from Libya and were stuck on the Libya-Tunisia border, within the next 48 hours.

Thousands of foreigners, many of them Egyptians, have fled Libya by land into Tunisia in recent days.

Sameh Shoukri, Egypt’s Foreign Minister, returning from Tunisia with 300 workers, told a press conference on Tuesday that Egypt would increase flights to bring home 2,000 more workers currently stuck on the border.
The tensions on the border between Libya and Tunisia escalated last week, after hundreds of Egyptian workers tried to cross the border gate to Tunisia. Libya’s border guards had to open fire to restore order, killing 2 Egyptians. 5,000 tons of food had been sent by the Egyptian government for Egyptian workers stuck at the border and Egypt’s army had also provided them with food and medicine.
